The holiday season is coming, and online retailers are gearing up for it in a big way. The holiday season accounts for between as much as 40% of a retailers’ total annual sales, according to the National Retail Federation.
About 66 million shoppers bought stuff online on Black Friday last year. That day, Walmart’s website got 53% of its traffic – some 400 million pages viewed – on smartphones and tablets. Every single statistic around online shopping during the holiday season is astounding. And it will astound us further in 2014.
So ecommerce merchants see a massive spike in their transactions during the holiday period, but how can Shopify Partners benefit from holiday shopping as much as Shopify merchants? Here’s how.
1. Case Studies
Identify past trends in your value proposition. If you are a coupon provider, write about how 73% of holiday shoppers are influenced by coupons.
If you are a shipping platform, inform online merchants that 71% of shoppers expect free shipping during the holiday season. And then put the case study out there for online retailers to see and be persuaded.

2. Holiday Season Offers
Just like online retailers incentivize their customers by offering special prices and unbelievable offers during the holiday season, you can offer Shopify customers a free trial, or a discounted package for the holiday season.
This will help you get your foot in the door, and convert them into paying customers after the season, once they see value in your offering. Here is a benchmark presentation from Totango on SaaS conversion benchmarks, which you could use to evaluate your success.
3. Branding
Capitalize on the festive mood by being part of it. Brand your website landing page banner with a Christmas theme. Send out newsletters with a celebratory subject line. Tweet creative seasons’ greetings messages that will capture attention.
Let your customers know that you are in on the celebration and are not just selling your wares.
4. Product Video
Okay, now we are getting creative. If you have the budget, make a product video with people dressed in Halloween costumes or as elves. Write a script around Christmas or Thanksgiving. Be clever about describing your product with a strong dose of holiday in it.

5. Paid Ads
Use holiday season related keywords in your AdText. For example, if you are a shipping partner for Shopify, you could say “Deliver in time for Christmas” instead of “Ensure timely delivery” in your copy.
